Coffee Beans vs Cacao Beans

Every once in a while someone picks up a cacao bean and goes,

“Wait… is this coffee?”

Fair question.

(It does look like something you’d grind and brew.)

But they’re not the same thing at all.

🌍 They grow in similar places

Both come from warm regions, usually closer to the equator.

The kind of places that are humid, rich, and a little wild.

And just like coffee, where it’s grown really matters.

You can taste the difference.

🌱 Origin actually changes the flavour

Coffee people know this.

Chocolate people are just starting to talk about it more.

A bean from one country can taste completely different from another.

Not better or worse. Just… different.

Some are brighter.

Some feel deeper and more mellow.

You don’t expect that from chocolate until you try it.

🔥 The process is surprisingly similar

Both go through fermentation.

Then drying.

Then roasting.

That part surprises people.

And honestly, that’s where a lot of the flavour gets shaped.

Too much roasting and everything starts to taste the same.

Just kind of… dark and bitter.

☕️ Coffee hits you right away

It’s bold.

You feel it immediately.

That’s part of the appeal.

🍫 Chocolate takes a second

Good chocolate doesn’t punch you in the face.

It kind of unfolds as you eat it.

You start to notice things you didn’t expect.

(Which sounds weird until it happens.)

🍯 Then there’s what gets added

A lot of chocolate leans pretty heavily on sugar.

That’s usually what smooths everything out.

We went a different direction.

Just cacao beans, cacao butter, and local honey.

That’s it.

👀 So no… not coffee

But also not what most people think of as dark chocolate.

If you’ve ever said,

“I don’t really like dark chocolate…”

Yeah. We hear that a lot.

If you’re curious, start simple.

The peanut bark is an easy win.
