Is Dark Chocolate A Superfood?

Dark chocolate is one of the highest rated superfoods. But what really is a superfood anyway?

Superfood isn’t a recognized category of foods, but the term generally refers to natural foods that offer an exceptional high nutritional value for the amount of calories.

Dark chocolate fits that definition like a glove. Cacao is packed full of antioxidants, flavenoids, and minerals. Flavenoids have anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic effects. Honey also contains antioxidants, vitamin C, vitamins B2, B3, B5, and many minerals like calcium, copper, magnesium, and more.

Cacao beans are high in healthy fats. Foods containing healthy fats have been shown to lower your LDL, the bad cholesterol.

Dark chocolate is definitely ‘super’

To get all these great benefits, you’ll want to stick to dark chocolate that is 60% cacao or higher. That’s why we make all our bars higher than 70%. As cacao content gets higher, you’ll get more benefits from each bar of chocolate, but the chocolate will also be more bitter. We found that 70% is the sweet spot - not too bitter, but high enough cacao content to give you all those ‘super’ health benefits!
